Having fun in the name of education

Slovo Centre of Excellence hosted the children to a fun day of learning and fun in the community.

A fun day of painting and finding awesome things to do within Westdene was what was in store for children.

Recently, during a week-long Fynbos Festival children were invited to Emzini Restaurant, where they spent part of their day creating unique pieces of art only young creative minds could bring to life.

This was hosted by Slovo Centre of Excellence, a Hursthill-based centre is a non-profit organisation that works with early learning centres, community organisations and children aged between five and 16 years old.

Some of the children invited were from Kid Aid, an organisation described as one that was founded to help children realise their potential, and that their dreams shouldn’t be limited just because of their background

On the day there was a painting session held at the restaurant, a picnic and a fun walkabout at the Westdene Dam along with games and songs in the park.

Project coordinator at Slovo Centre, Debbie Cockrell said, “Many children in our community don’t get the opportunity for safe, engaged, playful experiences. This provided such a wonderful opportunity for a small group with a huge impact on their experience of fun and learning.”
