Torsaa keeps the youth out of trouble

Torsaa wants to advance her tennis coaching career and assist as many people as possible.

Giving back to the community of Westdene is what Thomas Terseer Torsaa has been passionate about.
The 42-year-old teaches tennis to youngsters so they can avoid crime and drugs, especially children in his community.
Tennis, according to Torsaa who started coaching tennis in 2017, is a sport that young people should prioritise to stay out of trouble.

“I know firsthand the dangers of drugs and crime, having grown up in a neighbourhood where these issues were prevalent. I want to make sure that the youth in my community have access to positive activities that will keep them away from these negative influences,” said Torsaa.

“I have been granted access to the community centre recreational facility which has a tennis court. This makes lessons easy to access for the children of Westdene and surrounding areas. I maintain the tennis courts with my personal finances.”

Torsaa’s passion for tennis and his desire to help young people in his community has led him to sacrifice his personal needs and put others first. He believed that by teaching the sport, he could instill discipline, focus, and determination in his students.
He said two of his former students received scholarships to study in the United States and they were currently thriving in their tennis.

Power outages are a problem for the coach as he said it affected practice times as they have to leave the premises earlier than they would like to. He hoped to reach out to as many schools in the area as possible and make a difference in his community.

Through tennis, Torsaa is making a difference in the lives of young people, giving them hope for a brighter future.
