Berario Bunnies rescues rabbits across Joburg

Though the group started at Berario Recreation Centre, it now operates across the city.

It can be a tricky job to trap, sterilise and re-home wild rabbits, but Meahni Pieterse and her volunteers do it with a smile.

The Berario Bunnies group was first started to manage the rabbit population that sprang up in the suburb and they operated at Berario Recreation Centre.

But as they became better at what they did and the same need became evident elsewhere, the group branched out across the city, with Kyalami and the East Rand being the new focal points of work.

“Bunnies all over Joburg are in dire need of help,” said Pieterse, the group’s founder.

It is for that reason she welcomed any donations or volunteers to do their part.

And, as always, the bunnies are in need of new homes so community members are encouraged to adopt.
