Going wild with Kendra Lagerwey
Wildlife photography is the sort of activity this local youth could spend hours doing.
Life through someone else’s lens sometimes gives you a skewed perspective on life. But, through Kendra Lagerwey’s lens life is a wild, wonderful place, which she shares with us.
I have recently been investing more time in one of my hobbies – photography.
I have been blessed with a family that will take me on holidays away from the city, as well as give me a camera that I have started to use a lot more often as a teenager.
With my family travelling, it has allowed me to capture a different kind of life that not all people get to see every day. I not only want to share the photos I take, but also want to allow others to see what I see – the beauty within every photograph. My favourite thing to photograph is wildlife and nature.
I love taking photos like these as you will always capture something different; see the fine detail that this earth has to offer. The moments before the photos are taken are, I think, the best as you try and find the perfect angle and lighting and sometimes, before I snap the photo, I take a moment to embrace how amazing the animal or landscape is.
Not only does this hobby take patience to get the photo you are wanting, but you also need to love what you are doing. I find that the more you love what you are taking a photo of, the more beautiful the photo will be. Taking photos has changed the way I see the world. It helps me pay attention to the detail and patience needed for certain things, and for that I am truly grateful. I hope to continue with my photography.
