My name is Romey Mortonson, from Linden and I am originally from Durban.
I started doing nails two years ago as a student and ended up being a teacher at the school. However, when the coronavirus hit SA in 2020, the school shut down and I couldn’t finish my studies. This allowed me to take a leap of faith and explore something different that suits my personality.
I`ve always loved art, but I never thought that I was good enough to make a career out of it. I became obsessed with watching nail artists paint characters and detailed portraits on nails. I decided to take a nail course and start my career as a nail artist. It`s been a difficult journey as I did not start in a mainstream salon and I had to build a client base from scratch but I am now proud to say that I have my own nail business and I get to express my creativity every day through my work.
My salon`s name is Romaloma. I named it after the nickname that I got in high school because I wanted the salon to represent who I am. I knew that I wanted my studio base to stand out and reflect both my personality and sense of style, which I would describe as hip-hop and Disney.
My main passion is nail art and I paint characters every chance I get. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have discovered a niche that truly makes me happy and has allowed me to explore a skill that I never thought I had.
I am currently in the process of launching a new service which is custom press-on nail sets. They can be ordered from me and I can design what the client wants. This new project has me excited as I can challenge myself. Press-on nails have become increasingly popular in recent years and I believe that my custom designs will appeal to a wide range of customers who are looking for unique and personalized nail sets. I am confident that this new service will be successful and I look forward to seeing where it takes me.
There are many salons out there and I think what sets me apart is my unique style of painting characters on nails. I am confident that my creativity and attention to detail will attract more clients. With each new project, I strive to exceed my client’s expectations and provide them with a one-of-a-kind experience. I am excited to see what the future holds for my nail studio.
