Dancing through it all
One day Shaylin Moore's name will be known on dance stages both local and international. For now, her dancing shoes are making moves.
No matter the stage, it is safe to assume that Shaylin Moore will light it up – not only with her smile but with her signature dance moves too.
The 11-year-old said she was born to dance. “My mom, Ashleigh Moore, was a champion dancer; my granny has been a dance teacher since she was 19. She is now 83 years old.”
With a freestyle dance here and a slow dance there, the stage is her little part of the world.
One prominent dance inspiration to her was, and still is, her mother. Shaylin’s mother lost her battle with cancer last year. “Dance has helped her in a time of great transition in her life and when she dances, she does so in the spirit of her mother,” said her aunt Natalie Baty.
Shaylin finds great support through Dance Zone International, where she attends lessons; they serve as a supportive extended family to her. She is inspired by her instructor, Alex Mundell, who is Freestyle World Champion. Mundell said Shaylin had the ability to connect to the music. “Shaylin dances with so much feeling; her eagerness to learn and improve her technique will aid her growth as a dancer.”
Dance has given her the power to command any stage as she has gained great confidence through it. Though some challenges are the long training hours and learning new routines, Shaylin loves every minute of it. A standout for her was Discorama. “I got to compete for the Joan Mancer Memorial. She was my gran’s best friend and loved by all freestyle dancers.”
Dance has taught Shaylin that she can do anything she puts her mind to. Her present goal is to be a world champion at the Winter Gardens competition to be held in Blackpool, UK.
