Brixton police commit to improving service delivery to precint

Colonel Jeanete Maupa has already made strides with increased patrols and operations with a view to combating crime and ensuring the community is shielded from crime.

Brixton police have had several heads in the last year with Colonel Jeanete Maupa becoming the newest station commander.

She takes over from acting Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Logan Govender who was posted to Norwood. Before him, Colonel Mkhancani Maluleke was promoted to brigadier and moved to Eldorado Park.

Maupa comes to Brixton from Diepkloof and has 32 years of service under her belt.

She is keen to establish good relationships with the community and to working closely with other crime-fighting organisations and companies in the area. “I am dedicated and determined to combat crime within the Brixton precinct.

“My plans for the future are to ensure the community lives in harmony and criminals are brought to book. I want the community to feel safe at all times.”

Her objectives are:

1) Improved visible and accessible policing
2) Closer cooperation and partnerships with the community
3) Rendering quality services
4) Improving trust and confidence in the station.

To this end, the station’s management team has established effective strategies to curb crime and will hold regular crime-awareness campaigns. “Operations are conducted frequently and we recommit to ensuring the community is aware of crime trends and other useful information that may affect them.”

She is also passionate about the youth. “Crimes that affect students, like street and house robberies at student accommodation around the University of Johannesburg, will be tackled. Extra patrols and stop-and-search operations will be intensified and crime awareness activities will be held on a weekly basis. The aims of these actions will be to encourage students to become street smart, to plan their routes in advance, and to be alert at all times.”

“I am fortunate to have a well-established CPF with community patrollers and sector crime forums up and running. I want to thank them for partnering with us in the fight against crime and hope for more community involvement in this going forward. Regular meetings will be held and communication with the community will improve.”

She stressed the importance of optimal working conditions for officers and police force members. “I want to make sure that they enjoy being at work because they will then be able to give 100% at all times.”

Spokesperson for the station Jeanette Backhoff said, “Our members support the colonel and are committed to working with her to ensure the community receives the service they deserve.”
