Painting Linden green

The community headed to the Irish Club Linden where they were hosted to a very special feast day celebration.

There is an Irish saying that goes, ‘Here’s to a long life and a merry one. A quick death and an easy one. A pretty girl and an honest one. A cold pint and another one!’

A fitting expression at the Irish Club Linden, when rock band and organiser Black Cat Bones hosted a St. Patrick’s Day festival.

The When I see you rockers held a fest reminiscent of a small Irish town – with pints of beer around the table as guests shared stories over candle light, while others danced as the music played. All that was missing were sightings of a few fairies or a leprechaun or two.

“We started playing at the club about four years ago. Post-lockdown it took a while for the place to find its feet again. So we took it upon ourselves to really try revitalise it to its former glory,” said guitarist André Kriel.

Fellow band member Gareth Wilson painted the scene as he jovially said, “There are lots of people here; a huge tent and loads of Guinness with even more green.”

He added it is a shame that some reading this article didn’t get the pleasure of experiencing this St Paddy’s celebration. “We have lots of Irish ditty’s playing and arguably the best bagpipe player on the face of the earth who played some awesome tunes.”

Of course, the band was not going to let any of their fans go home without them rocking the night away to some of the songs. They rocked out the night the best way they know – making sure everyone was up on their feet.
