Isaac Khan: I think the police could do a better job but understanding capacity is a big problem because there are not enough policemen to do the work.
The Northcliff Melville Times asked some residents in Melville if they felt the police were doing enough to keep communities safe.
This is what they had to say…
Kate Joseph: No. There is also not enough communication between the police and the community they serve. Response times by the police are also lagging.Kate Spiller: I do not believe the police are well trained, nor well equipped, and are very poorly paid. They don’t seem to understand the law and don’t seem to care.Wiehahn Koortzen: No. I think crime is out of control. Right from the very top of the police to the bottom is polluted with corruption.Robert Burger: Definitely not. You never see them out on the streets and when you call them for help they do not come. After an incident is reported to them, I don’t see much action being taken to investigate.
