Actress, television and radio presenter, voice actor and voiceover artist are what Eloise Cupido is best known for.
Though she can, in the eyes of her six-year-old, also hold the title of best mum and best cook. Because, when she isn’t in front of the camera, Cupido is in her kitchen as she reckons her cooking and baking to be her love offering. “I take great care with it and when I do it, I always overdo it.” Ironically, her television career started 26 years ago on the set of Vetkoek Paleis. So maybe she has always loved being around food?
Not necessarily, as Cupido’s love of people is what she prides herself on. She finds no greater joy than being a conductor of love, “Reminding people of how fabulous they are and what they have available to them. The innate value they have just for existing.”
Along with its people what this Brixton resident loves about her community is its vibrancy. “There is a spirit of giving and looking out for each other that is wonderful,” she says. Adding that she feels at home, surrounded by other creatives and a community of people who make it a great place to live in.
The most courageous thing she has done so far is having a child. “Raising a precious little human in this world is a challenge for which there is no true preparation. Navigating the lack of community and family around me and still showing up in my rollercoaster of a professional life in a full and productive way, has been a steep intense learning curve,” said Cupido. This is also the gift she is most grateful for as her son is the biggest blessing and achievement of her life.
Cupido hopes she helps people realise just how precious they are and that they matter. “I hope people can see through all I do that their dreams are powerful and that they are powerful and should keep shooting for the stars.”
She also hopes to help people see that they needn’t be seen as ‘great’ to make a great impact. As she sees it, we all have something fabulous to contribute to our community.
