Breaking bread at Emmarentia

Families gather to celebrate a special Japanese ceremony.

Families gathered at Emmarentia Dam recently to celebrate the new year.

They were hosted at Kagami Biraki, by Seido Karate Johannesburg. This is a Japanese traditional ceremony to break ornamental mochi and eat it for good health and good fortune for the New Year.

Though there was no breaking of ornamental mochi, there was a picnic where people sat together and enjoyed the food that was shared among them all.
