A grand welcome for Class of 2023

Outgoing Class of 2022 matrics of Hoërskool Linden share their words of wisdom with the incoming Grade 8s of 2023.

As the matric Class of 2022 sets sail for their new adventure they made sure to inspire those still about to enter into the bold world of high school life.

Hoërskool Linden’s Class of 2022 matrics penned these words for the Grade 8 class of 2023. They shared many words of advice, the main theme of which was to try everything, and make every day count.

Here is what they had to say…

BERNARD GREEFF: Never miss an opportunity to improve yourself. Carpe diem!
MARGAUX LE ROUX: Know what is important to you and prioritizs it.
CLARISSA TERBLANCHE: Grade 8s of 2023. You are now entering a new part of your life cycle, and that’s Hoërskool Linden. High school is a time in which you have to try everything that interests you and that will build you up to be the best you. High school is a time to laugh and at times to cry, a time to form and build friendships. Enjoy the next five years of high school, because before you know it, it will be over. Give your best in everything you do. Persevere to the end.
FIKELE NTSUTLE: High school may be one of the best and hardest times of your life. You will meet so many people and make new friends with whom you will create memories but also walk your life’s path together. At Hoërskool Linden I found my people and just like that we became family (even the teachers). Sometimes the road feels long but it is definitely worth it. There is one cliché saying that I have heard over and over in my high school career and it is: It is not the school that makes you but
ROBYN HAASBROEK: Try to be part of the school as much as possible. Be in as many photos and videos as you can. Try to be at every rugby match, netball match, hockey match and any other matches. Make friends with everyone, because before you know it, it’s all over and you really can’t remember anything about the five years you spent there.
DANICKA RAUTENBACH: It’s important to try your best and know that your best is good enough, make time for yourself and your people and enjoy your high school career to the fullest.
ANIKA OOSTHUIZEN: My advice to new Lindenites is to attend as many school activities as you can, take lots of pictures, do everything with your friends and make memories every step of the way. ‘Even though the moments don’t last for long, the memories will last forever!’ May your veins beat with the proud green blood, just as mine will beat for the rest of my life.
MEGAN BOTHA: Don’t be afraid to try everything, even if you’ve never heard of it or done it before. Who knows, you might discover your secret talent with which you will change the world.
RUBEN AUCAMP: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
ROGAN SCULLARD: High school will offer you many opportunities. Say yes to each one and then you only think about how you are going to get it right. Also, remember that only you determine how much you enjoy these opportunities. Approach everything positively and high school will be the most enjoyable time you’ve experienced so far.
ZAHN CALITZ: Dear future Lindenites. Welcome to Hoërskool Linden, your home for the next five years. You might feel a little nervous now, it’s a new school with new friends and more homework – a new beginning. Don’t worry, we’ve all felt that way, you get used to this change quickly. The best advice I can give you is, to participate in everything. Don’t be afraid to try a new sport or a new cultural activity. You never know, you might find your passion that you will carry with you for the rest o
JORDYN FARAH: To the Grade 8s of 2023: Wow, here you are in a brand new school, full of new opportunities. On my very first day of Grade 8, our head boy gave a speech about school shoes, and I think I will carry that in my heart forever. New school shoes are sometimes so uncomfortable and it’s hard to wear and adjust from your old comfortable school shoes, but as you keep wearing them and get used to them, your new school shoes become almost like your best friend! Now the school shoes are a meta
JOHN-RY GOODMAN: Don’t put too much pressure on yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Enjoy your high school career.
KARL PAGE: Don’t try to be someone you’re not. Try to have a good balance between your friends and school work and make sure of your priorities. Stay humble and be kind to the people around you. My father taught me that the more people who have a positive impression of you when you finish school, the more potential clients you have in the future. Most important of all is to just try to enjoy every moment even if it is sometimes difficult. Fortunately, there is never a dry moment at Linden.
