Jonker family is so grateful to their broader community for helping to find their beloved dog

Boesman was located after days of searching by individuals and groups before he was reunited with his family.

Ward 88 councillor, Nicolene Jonker wrote a letter to the paper to thank her community who helped to rescue her dog.

How do I thank a community?

It takes a village to raise a child. But, in my family’s case, it took a community to bring our pet back home.

Little did we know our lives would be turned upside down on Friday, October 14, 2022, when my daughter asked where our dog was. All residents searched on the road, and the petrol station staff directed us to the scene where our dog was last seen.

We want to thank everyone who shared our post. Tanya from Searchlight for designing the missing dog poster and sharing it with her network of people. Also, Diane from Healthy Hound Missing Pet Search and Rescue Unit, for her kindness, checking in and helping us search.

Fairland CPF, especially Mr Cassim, always assist where possible. SCP Security and the team who searched on the ground and amplified on Facebook. Ms Annelize from CPF Linden also assisted in the search.

We especially want to thank Ms Ayesha from Total Energies 14th Avenue in Fairland, who spent most of her evening reviewing surveillance footage to identify the incident.

Mr Aiton, Conright Manyike, and the Beagle Watch team helped find the vehicle registration number and assisted with their CCTV camera with the licence plate recognition system. Without the technology and the caring nature of everyone involved, we would not have found our beloved pet.

Cuddles and Bubbles, mobile dog grooming ensured no physical harm was found on Boesman and removed all his ticks with so much care.

Mostly we thank SAPS Fairlands, Colonel de Freitas, Captain Mekoa and his fantastic team for not giving up, listening to the tears, and acting swiftly.

With kindest regards,

The Jonker family.
