Monalisa Khumalo crafted this poem about the timeless subject of love

Love and loss are the subjects of this piece submitted for our youth page.

Monalisa Khumalo who attends Northcliff High School wrote this beautiful poem about love for our readers to enjoy.

Why did it have to be me?

A place that never stands still
building with emotions
built on a surface of flesh and blood

A museum of memories
holding the wisest thoughts
funniest manners
the warmth of a place called home

Hand ready to wipe the pain
smile giving off love
eyes that showcase a library of untold stories

The love that projects every time I get closer
a feeling you can never get tired of
something I never realised I was missing
until I couldn’t come home to you

One thing love has never taught me is that it makes you a
better person for who you are with
never good for those who aren’t home

We’ll return stronger soldiers
love never really talks about death
but if you look hard enough, you’ll see
it always brings us there.
