The coach for Benoni Indians Baseball, Jerry Pieterse said these finals saw all the eastern teams compete against each other.

Match day was met with much excitement for the players as well as the spectators who, with every strike and pitch made, sat on the edge of their seats.

Pieterse said this growing sport was self-funded at both provincial and national levels. “It is a growing sport in the communities. During lockdown everything got shut down but now it looks to be on the mend again.”

The coach believed the sport was on the rise in the country even though it was not promoted enough. “There are certain regions that are stronger but it obviously comes down to players who in due course need to become coaches themselves, as there is a shortage of coaches, umpires, officials and scorers but with the right commitment we should be playing well.”
