Amapiano takes the lead in Northcliff

Up-and-coming local music producer shares his passion for music.

Local youth shares his dreams of being one of the greatest Amapiano music producers of his time.

My name is Luphiwe Dzengwa and go by the stage name Suckboomin.

I’m originally from East London, and now currently live in Northcliff. I’m a musician though more of a producer, who has always been into music since I was young, with influences such as Fela Kuti, George Benson, The Spinners, Metroboomin, and many more.

In primary school, I was in the choir from Grades 4-6 and went into marimbas in Grade 7. In high school, I joined the cadet band (marching band) from Grades 8-9. When I was in Grade 10, I moved up to Joburg and started producing in FL studio, a music production system, and never looked back.

I started producing hip-hop beats for my friends and I just made what sounded right to me and I enjoyed making beats. It felt like they were my children, and I was proud that I could imitate what I was hearing in my head. 2019 was a special year for me. X

With the rise of Amapiano, I decided to try to make the genre as well.

Luphiwe Dzengwa is an aspirant music producer.

At the time, the beats I made were below average, to say the least, but I eventually became more in tune with the sound and got better.

The Amapiano sound has been such a great one for the country and my idols like Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa as well as DJ Stokie remind me every day that anything is possible, and great things are possible.

From these artists growing up in the hood to getting gigs overseas really keeps my hopes up and restores my faith that one day I’ll be like them as well or even bigger.

The international influence that the Amapiano genre has right now is astronomical, it really brings the country together and is making big names for a lot of artists that came from nothing and that enjoy music.

I imagine myself being among my peers and idols all while perfecting my craft. I have an album coming up, hopefully coming out by the end of the year called Kool Kids Listen To Amapiano 2. Be on the lookout for that.

My last words for anyone struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel in regard to their passion: it’s only a matter of time until something pops off but if you quit now, you’ll never know what opportunities you’re missing out on.

Much love, stays safe.
