Brixton Police Station prepares for ‘silly season’

The station will visit various places of business to ensure they will be following proper safety guidelines during this time.

They say it is better to be prepared than to get ready.

Bearing this in mind, Brixton Police station is preparing for the festive season.

According to the station’s spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff, as everyone patiently waits for the coming holiday season to start, the station is preparing for the festive season to make sure that the community is safe during that time of the year.

Small business owners and shopping malls in the Brixton policing area are being visited by the acting Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Logan Govender along with the sector managers, Sergeant Wendy Thabede and Constable Sebogodi Mochaliabane, liquor officer Andile Kubheka and Backhoff in an effort to remind the centre managers and security companies to increase security by placing extra measures in place to ensure the safety of their personnel and customers.

“Small business owners are also warned not to keep shops open till late at night as this is a safety hazard and an invitation to criminals as they are easy targets. Liquor outlets will also be visited to ensure that they comply with rules and regulations and trade according to liquor licences,” said Backhoff.

She said the station would increase patrols and visibility at shopping centres and want to ensure patrons that their safety is the station’s first priority.
