Some locals let us know their thoughts on the Queen’s reign all these 70 years and what she meant for them though seas apart.

My memories of the Queen,

My grandmother had a large picture of the Queen in her bedroom, so from my earliest memories, she had always been a part of my life. There is an old age home in Joburg called Queenshaven, it was built in the year of the Coronation.

There is a huge picture of the Queen in the hall. I also used to run an interest club at our local church and we never wasted an opportunity to celebrate the Queen, especially on her 90th birthday. Queen Elizabeth II was a beautiful example to us all of how to live a good life. She was committed to her duties and completed them to the full. May her soul rest in peace.

I have always had such great respect for Queen Elizabeth II. Her being a part of history for all those 70 years and having served her people and put her life forward for them, was just exemplary. She also had such a lovely sense of humour and was loved by so many people. There are honestly too many superlatives to associate with the Queen.

I am more saddened at the loss of her majesty than I expected. She was always there as our Queen when I grew up in the UK and around the globe when my father was posted for the British Army. As a school girl, I got time off to attend two investments where my father was appointed CB and CBE.

CB is Commander of the Bath, which I would tease him for whenever he took one. I also sat in the front row when her majesty rode saddle a few metres away at Trooping the Colour. As I had a cousin in the royal employ, he took me to see her magnificent horses and the dog kennels at Sandringham as well as a private tour of the house. She has more than served her people but deserves her rest. King Charles and I were born the same year. I wish him God speed and energy for his reign so late in life.
