17-year-old arrested for unlicensed firearm

At least four people were injured in two separate shootings in Westbury in a single day.

There was a success in the fight against crime in the plagued Westbury area when a stolen gun was recovered following two separate shooting incidents in a single day.

The Sophiatown SAPS Crime Prevention Unit followed up on information and intelligence following another bloody day in the area.

Sophiatown police spokesperson Captain TJ de Bruyn said, “Members of the community helped us to look for the suspects and alerted us when one of them was spotted. A police chase ensued and a 17-year-old male was arrested who had an unlicensed firearm in his possession.”

It is believed the gun was stolen in the Langlaagte area recently.

De Bruyn said at least four people were injured in the two incidents and were treated at a nearby hospital.
