How to report a water leak

The faster leaks and pipe bursts are reported to Johannesburg Water the more speedily they can respond. Here is an outline of the different reporting options available.

Ageing infrastructure and a backlog of calls mean technicians are often unable to react as quickly as one might like – making it more important than ever to log a fault quickly.

How to contact Johannesburg Water.

For larger water outages the city should provide water tankers as an alternative water supply, if it has been in effect for more than 24 hours.

The standard response time to fix a burst pipe is 48-hours but might take longer depending on the extent of the damage, the tools and equipment needed to do the repairs, and the availability of manpower.

When logging a fault, it is important to provide as much of the following information as possible:

Clearly state the problem eg: water outage, water leak, or burst pipe
Provide:
• Area name,
• Nearest corner,
• Your name, and
• Your cellphone number.

If the leak is in your yard also provide:
• House number, and
• Street name.
