Local judo sensation triumphs at SA Judo Championships

Tyla Stacey-Hale, a student at Brandcliff House Private School, has become a sensation in the judo world. With a remarkable performance at the SA Judo championships, her dedication and talent have earned her a place in the prestigious Africa Judo championships.

Tyla Stacey-Hale, student at Brandcliff House Private School in Fairland, had become the talk of the school after her remarkable performance at the SA Judo Championships in Bloemfontein.

Her dedication and hard work paid off as she secured a gold medal in her individual fights and a silver medal in her kata demonstration, showcasing her talent in the martial art of judo. Tyla’s journey at the championships was nothing short of remarkable.

She participated in a total of seven fights, dominating the mat, with five of her bouts concluding in less than 10 seconds, and the remaining two wrapping up in under 30 seconds. Her swift and decisive victories not only helped her in her preparation for the competition but also brought immense pride to her school.

Tyla’s outstanding achievements have earned her the prestigious opportunity to represent South Africa at the upcoming Africa Judo Championships in Yaoundé, Cameroon. This event is a significant milestone in Tyla’s career as she will be competing against some of the best judokas from across the continent.

When asked about representing her school, Tyla expressed her honor and pride. “Brandcliff House has always been supportive to me, backing me every step of the way.”

She feels grateful for the chance to contribute to the outstanding ethics that the school holds dear.

She expressed her gratitude for the acknowledgement of her dedication to judo. “I take immense pride in giving my all and believe that my hard work has paid off. Even if I were to return empty-handed, I would still be happy as the experience and opportunity alone are a dream come true.”

She stated that her pursuit in judo began when she saw her brother participating in the sport in grade R. From that moment, she knew she had to try judo herself. Stepping onto the judo mat, she realised that it was her true passion.

The ethical values instilled by the judo code have had a significant impact on her, teaching her to be self-aware and humble.

“My devoted sensei immediately saw my potential and has been a constant source of motivation, pushing me to be her best. I also credit the support from my family and loved ones as being inspirational in my growth and journey towards becoming the best I can be.”
