Pillay plans to give his all at the Paris Olympics 2024

The University of Johannesburg student will compete in the mens 400m as well as the 4x400m relay.

The Paris Olympics 2024 will see Lythe Pillay run laps towards hope for the gold as he will soon take part in the men’s 400m sprint as well as the 4x400m relay.

Drawn to the sport for its raw competitiveness, he has participated in the sport since he was introduced to it when he was in primary school. He credits athletics for having given him the ‘what you put in is what you get out’ approach to all that he does. “I love the idea that my only limit is the amount of effort I put into a target or goal.”

Pillay explained he has been blessed enough to have competed in various competitions through the years, such as the 2019 African Junior Championships, the 2021 and 2024 World Relays Championships, the 2021 and 2022 World U20 Championships, the 2023 World Championships, and the 2021 Olympic Games. Athletics has seen the University of Johannesburg (UJ) student overcome various challenges from injuries to illnesses over the years. However, when faced with disappointments, he has learned to embrace it as it comes while he analyses areas of improvement beginning with his shortfalls.

Personally, Pillay hopes he inspires others to strive for their goals and passions despite challenges they may face. His ultimate goal within the sporting code is to become one of the most significant athletes to have competed in athletics.

His message to young sportsmen and women is to pursue their passions and aspirations.
