Mustangs stage sensational comeback to secure victory against Japanese Express

Mustangs seize victory in a nail-biting baseball showdown against the Japanese Express, solidifying their position as a formidable force in the league.

In an action-packed game, the Marks Parks Mustangs, playing on their home turf, went head-to-head against the visiting Japanese Express (JE) in a thrilling baseball match on June 16.

The game kicked off with JE’s at-bat, making a solid hit into the outfield and advancing to first base. Despite the Mustangs managing to secure two outs, JE capitalised on the opportunity and scored three runs in the first inning, setting an early lead.

As the game progressed, the Mustangs took their turn at bat in the bottom of the second inning. With JE granting two walks, Blayne Ponte of the Mustangs seized the opportunity, stealing two bases and helping the team score two runs, swiftly catching up to JE’s lead.

The defensive prowess of the Mustangs was on full display as they executed a skillful double play, successfully retiring two JE players on second and first base. The momentum continued as Carl Kassebaum of the Mustangs delivered a powerful performance, hitting two home runs and making a significant impact on the game.

The Mustangs showcased strategic prowess by making a tactical move to switch pitchers with Mark Damonse and Billy Schroder taking the mound. Despite JE leading with a score of 11-6 in the top 5, the Mustangs quickly secured three outs without JE scoring any runs in the bottom 5, setting the stage for an exhilarating comeback.

With only 30 minutes left to play, the Mustangs stepped up to bat, displaying a resurgence of energy and skill. A couple of walks and a series of well-placed hits saw the team rallying, bringing the score to an even 11-11 by the end of the inning, setting the stage for a nail-biting conclusion.

In a thrilling turn of events, the Mustangs took charge in the final inning, displaying remarkable tenacity and selective hitting, ultimately securing victory. Kassebaum’s second home run of the game was the decisive moment that sealed the win for the Mustangs, with the final score standing at 19-11.
