Yoga and motherhood: love at first sight
Personal trainer and mother Kendra Dykman’s passion for fitness ignited in 2012, when she became a spinning instructor. Little did she know that this would be the beginning of her incredible journey.
Over the years, she honed her skills and obtained qualifications at Trifocus Fitness Academy for yoga, and Pilates dynamics and became a registered biokineticist in 2015.

Dykman has been giving yoga classes in Berario free of charge since 2015, when she qualified as a yoga teacher, as a way to give back to the community and making exercise accessible.
She emphasised that working on physical fitness, people struggle with accountability and what we think is motivation. However, exercise needs to happen regardless of motivation. “Our health is a product of our habits. Just like we need motivation to brush our teeth, we happen to exercise in the same way as part of our routine.”

In 2021, Dykman’s dedication paid off when she emerged victorious in the South African Street Workout and Calistenics Championship. This achievement paved the way for her to represent her country in the World Championships held in Russia. Dykman’s determination and hard work propelled her to new heights.
However, life had more in store for her. In 2022, she experienced the transformative power of motherhood. The arrival of her child brought immense joy and love, but it also a significant change in her training routine going forward.
Motherhood has taught her that just how little can be enough exercise to make a difference. “I also need to consider my priorities –exercise is important, but Sunday morning cuddles are more important.”
She had to alter her new role as a mother while having a passion and love for fitness. Completely undeterred by the obstacles of change, Kendra opened a yoga studio. It opened a new chapter for her, as she made it her mission in helping others finding consistency when it came to fitness.
