Sean Koch looks forward to sharing the stage with two of his idols

As he readies to open for both Milky Chance and Xavier Rudd on two different weekends, Sean Koch shares on what this means for him.

On the bucket list of personal accomplishments to fulfill, few of us will have the privilege of ticking off ‘sharing the stage with someone that has inspired my work’. Of the group of elite people who have the grand opportunity of ticking this dream off, is South African folk singer, Sean Koch, who will be a supporting act for the international rock band, Milky Chance.

The German duo plan to put some bass into Emmarentia when they delight their fans with live performances from their hit list of songs come February 17 through a concert that’ll be hosted at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens.

For Koch, it’s Milky Chance’s balance of acoustic elements and ‘dancey’ vibe that he highlights as being a huge inspiration to him. So, it’s nothing short of fortunate to be one of their supporting acts. Growing up, he had a mix of music playing in the house. From his two older brothers’ appreciation of reggae to his parents always playing songs from the Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac and more, in the house, he loved it all.

When he was 14 years old, he started guitar lessons which allowed him to pair this skill with something he always loved, poetry. He finds it a dream to be able to do what he loves, “It’s also been such a blessing being able to travel to Europe every year and experience different people/cultures. To feel like I’m serving my purpose of putting out a message of light for people who may need it. For me, that is extremely enriching.” When his people listen to his music, he hopes they feel uplifted as this is its main purpose, make listeners feel all while making them happy and present.

On concert day audiences should expect nothing less than full energy, as Koch will be packing in tunes that are going to get you moving and grooving. He plays some old tunes as well as some new music.

Milky Chance is not the only international band he will open for this month, as he also will open for Australian musician, Xavier Rudd, on February 25. This is another dream realised as he listened to Rudd’s music when he was a child.
