City Power TID programme rolled out in Hursthill supply zone in February

The new software and meters will ensure customers can continue receiving electricity when the old systems stop working at the end of November.

City Power has been regularising electricity meters across the city since August last year.

The TID (Token Identifier Programme) was rolled out to ensure smart meters work after November 24 when old meters will be unable to be topped up with pre-paid electricity.

Authorised agents will conduct meter audits and reset and replace old meters at no cost to customers in the Hursthill supply zone this month.

Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says, “Electricity units found on the old meters will be carried over to the new ones.”

Teams carrying out this work will be easily identifiable with yellow TID branded bibs or t-shirts and will carry valid ID cards with an expiry date, a photo of the worker, and their name and surname.

“We are aware that criminals use counterfeit meter reading credentials to enter residential homes to rob unsuspecting customers. Residents are encouraged to call the number reflected on the branded bibs or ID cards to verify the person.”

The TID programme is run at no cost to customers so appeals have been made not to pay for work carried out as part of this project.

“Customers are urged to report suspicious activities such as being asked to pay for meter resetting, or for workers carrying out the jobs who are not wearing branded clothing or who are not carrying an ID card.”
