Let’s Work works hard to keep communities looking neat and tidy
Based in Ward 88, the group is seen in and around Region B clearing fields, removing rubbish from parks and maintaining a vast network of road and pavement verges at no cost to residents.
Let’s Work, a non-profit run by Felicty Lawlor, has worked tirelessly to help maintain the city in 2023 and hopes next year will be even more impressive.
Reflecting on the year, Lawlor aside from wishing everyone a happy festive season, was at pains to thank residents who make the work they do possible with generous donations.
“Thank you for the support that you have given us this year. Some of us have been here for many years, others come and go but there is a steady stream of new faces all the time. We are grateful for the opportunity provided.”
She says the people Let’s Work assists are proud to get up in the mornings and have a purpose. “Having somewhere to go and not just sit on street corners waiting for maybe a piece job some days is so important”.
The team has this message for our readers, “We can now provide or contribute to our families at home. Thank you to everyone who hoots and waves when they see us working, it encourages us and we know that we are appreciated by many. We are proud of the work and making the streets and parks clean.”
Lawlor says every year there seems to be less and less money allocated to Region B. “We might see better services before the elections in 2024, but it will be short-lived. If we don’t look after our suburbs – we will slowly look like other areas in the city.
“To many of our residents – our homes are our investments and unfortunately, we need to do a lot of the work that the city is failing to do. Politicians aren’t going to stop the rot and decay – only we can. Roll up your sleeves and join us by either donating your time or continuing to donate to Let’s Work (both would be great).”
