Linden scoops best CPF award

The prestigious awards are held annually where centres of excellence and dedication are commended for police members themselves, and bodies like CPFs that support them.

The Linden Police Station is outperforming its peers across the Johannesburg district.

The CPF under Annelize Tichauer took the award for CPF of the year, an accolade that is not surprising to those who monitor how hard they work.

This journalist has covered countless public meetings covering topics ranging from crime information sessions to helping the Victim Support Unit and more. From getting scholars from local schools involved in station activities to building partnerships with the police, to engaging in high visibility efforts like participating at local markets and even hosting fashion shows. This CPF is certainly thinking out of the box to create awareness, and it is working.

The SAPS National Excellence Awards programme is held annually where stations, individuals and CPFs can enter various categories and be judged by SAPS management.

Police stations are encouraged to enter individuals and teams that have performed above and beyond their expected tasks. The judging is done by various panels made up of SAPS management members from various stations for each of the categories.

The much-coveted award was given to the Linden CPF.

Station Commander Colonel Shaid Abdool highlighted that fighting crime is far more effective when it is done as a partnership.

“Policing is the strongest when all partners are involved, like SAPS, accredited security companies, and CPFs, which are an essential part of each police station to have it up and running effectively. I am so proud of our Linden CPF and all they have achieved and offer my congratulations to them again on this wonderful achievement.

“The current executive is made up of deeply committed volunteers who go above and beyond their mandated roles, and their efforts have not gone unnoticed.”

The station scooped a second award where Detective Sergeant NJ Kekana was awarded the prize for best detective and forensic member of the year.

“The next step is to see if we make it on the shortlist for greater Gauteng,” added Tichauer.
