Reeve Frosler dethrones Khune to lead the Carling Black Label Cup popularity stakes

Kaizer Chiefs’ Reeve Frosler leads the current popularity stakes in the Carling Black Label Cup which is now known as the ‘Goodnight Cup’ that will be played for the last time on November 12 at the FNB Stadium.

Although the closing date for votes is on November 6, Kaizer Chiefs’ Itumeleng Khune has so far been deposed as AmaKhosi’s most loved player after making history by topping the stakes of the Carling Black Label Cup leaderboard for the past 10 years of the trophy.

He was currently deposed from the seat of the popularity stakes by a fellow stalwart in the AmaKhosi team Reeve Frosler, who garnered 28 785 fan votes followed by new kid on the block and former Mamelodi Sundowns player Keagan Dolly, with 10 600 votes.

In the third position was a stylish player and teammate of Dolly in the Sundown’s menacing trio of the ‘CBD fame’ of Leonardo Castro, Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly, Billiat with 8 920 votes and Khune managing in fourth with 5 679 votes.

Khune, who earned the number one spot for his signature acrobatic saves in between the sticks for the Soweto Glamour Boys, was closely followed in the top five players of AmaKhosi by Kgaogelo Sekgota with 5 318 votes.

Chiefs’ least favourite player in the starting eleven votes was S’fiso Hlanti, who only managed to garner 3 189 votes.

The most loved Buccaneer is none other than the return soldier in the name of Kermit Erasmus, the man who opened the scoring against his former team Masandawana in the crunching defeat in the MTN8 second final leg of 3-0, with 8 977 votes.

Hot on his heels was Thabiso Monyane, who collected 8 510 votes and also closely followed by Thembinkosi Lorch with 5 892. Only a single vote separated Lorch and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, with 5 891.

Ndlondlo joined The Ghost of Orlando when voting had already started but was able to pull-off enough votes to place him in the fourth position of the most favourite Sea Robber, as Pirates is fondly known to its avid followers.

Falling within the top five bracket was Vincent Pule with 5 194. The least loved Sea Robber in the Buccaneers starting eleven line-up was Goodman Mosele with 1 968 votes.

Top on the list of the most favourite Brazilian was their yellow scoring Namibian machine Peter ‘Sha-Sha’ Shalulile, a PSL Footballer of the 2021/22 Season and Top Marksman of the same season, who received 6 079 votes and followed by Grant Kekana with 3 935 votes.

Kekana was followed by Ethiopian Abubaker Nasir with 2 472 and coming fourth in the love stakes of Masandawana was ‘Mshishi’, as Themba Zwane is fondly known to the Yellow Machine supporters, with 1 821.

Completing the top five of the Masandawana love stakes was Gaston Sirino with 1 502 votes while the least favourite in the starting line-up went to Marcelo Allende with 975 votes.

In the Usuthu love stakes, as AmaZulu FC are otherwise known, Mbongeni Gumede topped the stakes with 1 191, followed by former Buccaneer Gabadinho Mhango with 953 votes and Lehlohonolo Majoro in 3rd position with 795.

Coming in fourth position was Msindisi Ndlovu with 430 and the fifth position was taken by George Maluleke with 423 votes while the least player on the Usuthu starting eleven loves stakes went to Thembela Sikhakhane with 258 votes.

The game, which garnered more 2, 2votes in total so far, will be played on November 12 at the FNB Stadium and fans have until November 6 to change the above love stakes.
