Which crime is on the rise in the Brixton police precinct?

The station shares on which crime it is that is on the rise and tips on how to not be its victim.

Brixton Police Station has detected a rapid increase in theft of motor vehicles.

A crime analysis found this crime was predominantly occurring in areas such as Melville, Crosby, Mayfair and Vrededorp, with the problematic times found to be 15:00 to 17:59, 18:00 to 20:59, 21:00 to 23:59 and 00:00 to 02:59 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

Community members are urged not to be negligent and more vigilant and cautious during these times.

“All resources available to the station will be used to address and reduce this crime, to catch the perpetrators and to bring them to justice,” said the station’s spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff.
She added that apart from other role players who strive to keep our community safe, such as private security companies, patrollers, the station’s CPF with sector crime forums together with metro police and crime intelligence, the station’s sector mangers and crime prevention will also be involved with stop-and-search operations and high visibility.

Backhoff said patrols and roadblocks will be intensified and crime awareness campaigns will be held daily to give safety tips to the members of the public to reduce the chances of the public falling victims of this crime. “This campaign, among others, has been embarked on to curb criminal activities and to keep our community safe.”

The station concluded with a stern warning that criminal activities will not be tolerated and that the Brixton Police Station will put all resources in place to ensure a safer environment for the community.
