Five suspects arrested in Cottesloe

Brixton Police Station officers arrested the suspects after they found them to have stolen property – along with three other crimes.

Brixton Police Station arrested five suspects after they were found to be trespassing and in possession of an unlicensed firearm, among other crimes.

On July 1 at about 12:00, Constable Mukondeleli Muhanelwa was on duty when she received a call from a concerned citizen who notified her that there were a few suspicious-looking males loading beams on the back of a truck.
Muhanelwa, who is a detective at the station, asked the assistance of five of her colleagues to assist her in verifying what was taking place at the given address .

On the officers’ arrival at this Cottesloe-based natural gas reticulation company, they spoke to security guards on duty and requested to enter the property. “At the back of this company’s building they found five males in a white Kia truck with beams loaded on he back of the truck,” said the station’s spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff.
She added the suspects were ordered to get out of the vehicle and when they were searched, police found one with an unlicensed firearm with the serial number filed off, hammers, screw drivers, razer cutter and a torch .

The beams on the back of the truck were identified as the company’s property for which they had no have permission to remove it. The suspects were arrested for being in possession of stolen property, trespassing and possession of unlicensed firearm.
Backhoff said, “We want to commend Detective Constable Mukondeleli Muhanelwa for her swift response and highlight the fact that three of the other constables that assisted her are females.

She commended the following officers: Detective Constable Zania Hlamalani Mabasa, Detective Constable Thembi Lydia Nngomezulu, Detective Constable Tsundzuka Phteni Makhubele as well as their male counterparts, Detective Constable Silence Rhulani Hobyani and Detective Constable Stranger Sisko Mnkansi.

“We are proud of these women at Brixton station it shows that they don’t stand back to combat crime and to arrest. They are serving and protecting the community and will not stand back for the men in blue,” added Backhoff.

She concluded that during women’s month they are celebrating women in blue who are showing that they are hands-on and always determined to do the work.
