Jozi Dance Company receives an award

A Northcliff dance company takes home the best dance production award at an international dance competition.

Even though Covid-19 hit the art industry hard, a local dance company stood out and won an International Dance Open which took place from April 8–10.

The Jozi Youth Dance Company in Northcliff, which showcases professional dancers and choreographers, received the award for best dance production which qualifies them to take part in the competition’s finals in Croatia.

The dance company’s successfully sold out performances of Saviour at the Roodeport Theatre and the National Arts Festival in Makhanda, Grahamstown which took place from June 23 to July 2. Local dancers received standing ovations for all six performances of Saviour.

Choreographer Jayd Swart said they wish to uplift good news to the art industry and to South African dancers. She also said the dancers will prepare for their tour later this year to Croatia by practising every single day, including weekends.
