Protect your motor gate from theft

Linden police advise residents to safeguard their gate motors.

Following the arrest of two male suspects for stealing a gate motor from a Blairgowrie resident, Linden Police Station Commander Colonel Shaid Abdool, urged homeowners to protect their gate motors.

According to the station’s spokesperson, Sergeant Takalani Sibiya, the victim was at his place of residence on Conrad Drive in Blaigowrie. At around 19:45 when he was about to go to bed, he heard a loud bang coming from the kitchen door.

At the time all the doors and windows had been properly closed and locked. As the victim went to the kitchen to check what was going on, he saw two suspects breaking into his house.

“When he asked them who they were, they introduced themselves to the victim and then left the house. They claimed to know the owner of the house and said the victim should call the owner.”
The victim further alleged that he went to the bedroom to get his cellphone as he wanted to call the police. When he looked outside through the window, he noticed that the two suspects were removing his gate motor.

The police and security were called to the scene.

“The suspects were driving a red car which was searched by the police. In the boot they found the same gate motor that had been removed. The two suspects were arrested and detained at the Linden Police Station and will be appearing in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon,” concluded Sibiya.

The following tips could help reduce the chances of gate motor theft:

  • Bolt the motor gate into the ground to prevent it from being stolen.
  • Keep the gate motor locked to prevent it from being stolen.
  • Place the cage over the motor and secure it in the ground.
  • Ensure that when the gate closes, the edges fit together.
  • Instal any device of your choice that will notify security when the gate is forcefully opened.
