Illegal connectors arrested

"On arrival, one of the suspects was on a step ladder connecting wires to the main electricity outlet and the other was holding the ladder."

Officers of Brixton Police Station arrested two men for attempting to illegally connect electricity in Crosby.

On May 12 while conducting an operation that focused on theft of motor vehicles, common robberies and housebreakings, officers were alerted to the two men allegedly committing the crime by community members.

According to the station’s spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff, officers reacted swiftly to the information. “On arrival, one of the suspects was on a step ladder connecting wires to the main electricity outlet and the other was holding the ladder.”

Both suspects were arrested for attempting to illegally connect electricity and tampering with municipal infrastructure. “The suspects are between 24 and 30 years of age.”

Brixton Police Station Commander Colonel Mkhacani Maluleke thanked the community for the information and the officers for their swift response, and said police would not tolerate illegal connections or endangerment of the lives of the community.

“Illegal connections also cause power outages throughout the affected area. Any person who contravenes or fails to comply with the by-laws shall be guilty of a criminal offence and upon conviction be liable for a fine or imprisonment,” said Backhoff.

Backhoff encouraged the community to keep giving information to the station so that perpetrators could be arrested and ensure a better, safer country for all.
