A platinum celebration for Hoërskool Linden

The school reflects on the impact it has had on its community as they celebrate their 75th year.

To maintain, adapt and create new legacies for the 75 years is no easy feat.

Though this may be the case with many, for Hoërskool Linden, the past 75 years have been met with vigour and resilience.

Recently, the school hosted its staff and learners to a platinum celebration and boy, was it a celebration of note. From dance-offs to ‘bestie challenges’ to Master Chef competitions and pageant shows, there was really plenty that the school community could find total fun in.

Though the week was undoubtedly fun, it’s important to recognise that for the school to continue maintain its 75 year legacy within the community is truly something to be commended. So, how have they done it? The school’s marketing officer, Ané Groenewald, would say one of the ways it has accomplished this is by their pedagogical approach, especially in the technological age we live in.

“On a personal level, we believe that school is for the learners, by the learners, in other words, we listen to our learners and encourage them to find their voice and participate in their own growing and development process.”

In all these years they have also made sure to mould future leaders who are strong in character and who will go on to add value to society.

“The school has and continues to be a significant landmark and important asset to the broader Linden community, and we felt that celebrating the 75-year milestone is especially important in the times that we live in.

The rich history of the school has to be carried forward and celebrated, and we want to continue to protect and develop the legacy of a school that sends learners into the community that contributes positively to our community and society,” concluded Groenewald.
