Hoërskool Linden hockey teams excel

The school's first and U15 teams prove how their grit conquers all.

Hoërskool Linden’s first and U15 boys’ hockey team proved how hard work always pays off at this year’s Aitken & Boden Hockey Tournament.

At the tournament, the school’s Boden team placed fourth in the B-section while the first team, known as the Aitken team, is said to have shown absolute grit and determination as they placed in overall first position in the B-section as they saw victory against Hoërskool Monument (Monnas) by three goals to two in the final.

Entering the tournament this past weekend, as new additions to the B-division, the team managed to do exceptionally well in their pool games by beating the first teams from Curro Aurora, Rand Park High School, Marais Viljoen and St Peters College only losing one match to Monnas.

In doing so the team progressed to the finals to rewrite the scorecard and set the record straight against the very same team to which Linden conceded their only loss.

This group of players is said to have walked an exceptionally close path, led by their coach and Linden’s High Performance Manager, Leon Keulder, over the past four years and they believe the best is yet to come. “Hard work, dedication and discipline has paid off and the school is especially proud of these players.

Credit goes to the team and Keulder for putting in the effort to be considered a team to be reckoned with,” said Rúan Basson, Hoërskool Linden’s head of sports.

What makes the first team’s achievement extra special is that since they’ve competed in the C-section in 2019, they’ve been promoted to the A-section in 2023. All this done, even though in 2020 and 2021 tournaments could not take place – this proving it is only the beginning for this team.
