Linden and Randburg look forward to 7th rugby derby

Local high schools are excited to bring the community together for another day of rugby.

The seventh annual rugby derby between Hoërskool Randburg and Hoërskool Linden is producing loads of excitement in the community.

The derby has not been held since 2019 due to the pandemic. Now it comes to Hoërskool Randburg on May 21.

There are always a host of matches between the two schools, with U14s, U15s, U16s, 2nds, and the 1st teams testing their mettle against each other.

The 1st team match is always a big draw-card and in 2019 Randburg won the day away at Linden.

“It is more than just about the trophy,” said Hoërskool Randburg principal Pieter Booysen.

“It is about the whole community drawn together by sport and supporting the local youngsters. Winning is just a bonus.”

Hoërskool Linden’s head coach Martin Henning also said this is something the whole community is looking forward to.

“The event has been a highlight on the calendar for many years and it is great to be able to experience a sense of normality again.

“I am extremely proud of the work and preparation that the teams are putting in, and know that they will be giving their all on the day. The boys are hungry to play good rugby and represent our school well.”
