Delta Park Users Group to restore causeway

Volunteers plan to divert water and dry up pathway in park.

The Delta Park Users Group has plans to sort out a piece of pathway that has become slippery with the recent rains.

About 18 years ago, there was a muddy area close to the perimeter of the park, near the bottom of the Florence Bloom Dam, explained the group’s leader, Shirley Tebbutt.

“Peter Hammond and I decided to ‘pave’ it with concrete walling that had been donated,” she said.

“We called it ‘the causeway’ and for many years it was dry to walk on. This year with all the rain, the small spring flowing over the causeway looks like water coming out a hosepipe.”

The group plans to catch the spring water in a pipe and lead it into the French drain.

“Paving bricks will be put either side of the French drain and beyond that more concrete walling. We can only do this when the area has dried out.”
