Northcliff’s space for creative businesses

NORTHCLIFF – Farmers market to be hosted on April 2.

Market space open to support local businesses and service the community.

Located at the Tshepo Community Development Initiative centre on Pendoring Road in Northcliff, GIFTed is a market space/gifting and decor store which offers permanent space for local makers to display their goods on a permanent basis.
According to founder Yasmine Miemiec, the main aim of the market is to give entrepreneurs a space where they can display and sell their products outside of market days or parallel to their full-time jobs. It will also act as drop-off point for local charities, as well as offer several craft workshops for the community.Miemiec said, “The shop is very much a community enterprise – the vendors take turns manning the shop so they can meet the community and the residents can get to know the creators, and we support 4 NGOs as well – Fairland Feral Cats, Charity Begins with Me, Kindness Like Confetti, and Chic Mama’s Do Care.”

GIFTed have makers displaying products like garden planters; funky socks, jewellery, eco, leather, beaded, textile bags, ceramic figurines, crochet dolls, caps and more while looking to attract others. They recently had their grand opening which was a great success. “We had lots of visitors who had such positive reactions to the space. Some said it was time Johannesburg got creative spaces and took the monopoly away from Cape Town, we needed something different in our area,” Miemiec said.
She added that it has always been a dream of hers to open up such a space and was lucky that the Tshepo board liked the idea and agreed to let her put the shop on their site.

Miemiec, who has organised the annual Fairland CPF Market, is looking forward to the many events hosted at the store. “We are starting a farmers market on-site, with the first one taking place on April 2. You will know from my involvement with the Fairland CPF Market that I am committed to showing residents that there is no need to only support big-box stores. There is so much talent, drive and entrepreneurship right here in our area, cheer should be saluting and supporting that.”

GIFTed operates between Tuesday and Friday from 10:00 – 16:00 and weekends from 10:00 – 14:00.
