Place of Refuge 911 needs you

NEWLANDS – Will you come to the aid of this NPO that assists many in need in our community?

It cannot be easy for someone in need to reconcile with the fact that every month they have to depend on the mercy of others for assistance of any sort.

In our communities, there are many who struggle with making ends meet not just for themselves but their families and more often than not, it is the same people in our community making that difference in these people’s lives. When will it be you making that difference? How do you enrich your community?

Though the ‘month of love’ draws to an end, the need to give love in any fashion should never come to an end. For about 28 years, Place of Refuge 911, an NPO based in Newlands, has assisted in showing great care to those in need of help in our communities. Now, the organisation needs your assistance – be it through the donation of your time, resources or skills, your help toward this organisation would never be turned away.

Who is this organisation and why do they need your help? It serves as a home to 140 people, families and single people, who otherwise would still be homeless, and it also has a day-care centre that gives refuge to children whose parents try to make ends meet. “We make sure that these children have food before they leave here as we know that a lot of these children rely on the food they get here,” said Pastor Pepe Van As.

Van As explained how they also feed close to 1 000 people within the greater community each month. “In order for us to keep doing what we are doing, we need great assistance from the community.”

In recent years, and currently, the organisation has battled to make ends meet themselves, admitting they owe the City a great deal of money. With the little donations they do receive of food and clothing, they still manage to cater to residents and the community all while trying to find ways to pay their debt.
