PARKVIEW – Brigadier Theledi Gopane commended the work of detective Sergeant Oscar Ranthocha for his dedication.

Parkview Police Station Commander Brigadier Theledi Gopane has recently welcomed the conviction of a 34-year-old man.

The spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said that Luyanda Ngcongca was found

guilty by the Johannesburg Regional Court on December 1 last year for malicious damage to property, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, arson as well as the possession of a dangerous weapon.

“The Johannesburg Regional Court found Luyanda Ngcongca guilty and sentenced him to eight years’ imprisonment of which five years are wholly suspended and to serve three years direct imprisonment,” explained Sibeko

Gopane commended the work of Detective Sergeant Oscar Ranthocha for his dedication.

He said the detective worked with diligence to collect all evidence that led to the conviction.

Sibeko said that Ranthocha was allocated a case docket for investigation after Parkview police received a call on February 28, 2021, from radio control to attend to a complaint on the corner of Tyrone Avenue and Roscommon Road.

“On their arrival at the church, there were security cars parked outside and police noticed that there was smoke coming from a window that had been broken.

“The complainant informed police that he was sleeping when he heard a noise outside.

“He woke up and noticed a suspect breaking the windows and setting the office alight.

“The complainant pointed out the suspect and he was arrested.”

Gopane said he appreciates the partnership between the police and security companies within the Parkview precinct.

He encourages that they continue to address the causes of crime, investigate and prevent all acts which threaten the safety of residents.
