Norwood police nab suspected local drug distributor

NORWOOD – Police thanked the community member who shared information which led to the successful arrest.

Norwood Police Station commander Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Mathe was pleased to see the arrest of a drug distributor in the Norwood policing precinct.

The suspect was arrested on February 17 at about 13:30 after being found in possession of drugs. A spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha said police received a tip-off from a community member regarding a vehicle seen driving around the Norwood policing precinct and the occupant allegedly selling drugs.

Masotsha said one day when police were conducting routine patrols in Orange Grove, they spotted the vehicle with one occupant.

“Police introduced themselves to the driver and asked to search him. Permission was granted. Police found six small ziplock bags containing suspected crystal meth under the driver’s seat.”

Masotsha said police asked the suspect where he resided and proceeded to his residence where they found more drugs. “The suspect was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs and was detained at the Norwood Police Station.

“Norwood management thanks to the member of the public who shared information that brought about the successful result.”

Masotsha encouraged community members to continue reporting any suspicious activities to 086 011 0111 or 011 483 4609/14.
