Police arrest three after shoot-out

VICTORY PARK – Police are on the hunt for a suspect who fled the scene.

Linden Police Station arrested three of four suspects on February 11 after a shoot-out ensued between them and the suspects.

According to the station’s spokesperson Sergeant Takalani Sibiya, the station’s visible policing unit noticed the four males in one of Linden’s hotspot areas for contact and property-related crimes.

She said the suspects were driving a grey Ford Focus and looked very suspicious. Police sounded their sirens and instructed the suspects to pull over but the suspects’ vehicle sped off jumping several red traffic lights, endangering the lives of the public, motorists and learners at a nearby school.

Sibiya said, “The chase got to the corner of Road Number 3 and Rustenburg Road in Victory Park when the suspects started to shoot at the police vehicle and police members returned fire. The suspects had stopped their vehicle with one of them fleeing the scene.”

Sibiya added that the shoot-out ended with three of the suspects being apprehended – one of them injured. “One suspect was wounded and found at the back of a fast-food restaurant near the crime scene. The other two were apprehended shortly before that.”

The wounded suspect needed medical attention and is currently receiving it under police guard. All three suspects will appear in court soon while police are investigating the matter.

Sibiya concluded that they are doing all they can to locate the fourth suspect and include him in the charges of attempted murder and any other potential crimes they could have been involved in.
