Fashion brand continues to break barriers in student debt

SANDTON – Converse enlisted the help of YFM presenter Khutso Theledi to be the ambassador for the second edition of the student debt relief campaign.

Converse South Africa continues to not only provide a platform to the youth but also help them #CreateNext by breaking barriers to tertiary education.

Due to the overwhelming response it received for its previous campaign, the brand recently gave away a further R2 million to help more students further their tertiary education journey.
The campaign encouraged communities to tell their stories of inspiration, connection and innovation.

In an effort to drive this message further, Converse enlisted the help of Sandton resident and YFM presenter Khutso Theledi to be the ambassador for the second edition of the campaign.

According to Theledi, what motivated and made her truly grateful to be part of the initiative was the impact that it could make in the lives of so many students.

“Converse has taken a brave step forward in being part of the solution when it comes to trying to alleviate even a small portion of the result of generational economic depression.

“It’s so important for a student who is afforded an opportunity such as this one, to redefine what is truly possible, to grab this opportunity that is afforded to them, where someone is reaching out and saying ‘we are here to assist you’.”

The radio presenter has always had a passion for youth development having had the opportunity to engage with young people on a daily basis to not only hear but see the amount of issues and break that comes with student debt. “Challenges vary and the challenge that stands out constantly is not being able to even finish your studies after so much hard work, blood, sweat and tears.

“There’s also suffering from a range of triggering high levels of both mental and emotional stress, where one feels demotivated, making it even more crucial to take action where one can and this is part of the reason the #CreateNext initiative means so much to me.”

Theledi recalls how her mother made significant sacrifices in order for her to peruse her studies, “[But] not everyone has their parents paying for their tuition fees and I personally know how hard it is when you want to further your studies but don’t have the means to do so.”

Theledi is hopeful that the campaign will expand and more students will be able to get the assistance.
