Beagle Watch officer arrests men after being alerted to rape incident in Berario

BERARIO – The woman needed medical attention and was transported to a nearby medical facility, according to the spokesperson.

Fairland Police Station detained two men after one of them allegedly raped a woman in an open space on February 1.

According to the station spokesperson Sergeant Michael Kgatla, the incident took place around 19:30 when the victim was walking with a male friend.

He said, “The two were walking when they were confronted by two males. The male friend ran off and, unfortunately, the woman was left alone with the men. One of the suspects raped the woman while the other watched them.”

The friend who had run away found a Beagle Watch security officer nearby and alerted him to what had happened.

Upon the Beagle Watch security officer’s arrival, he found the suspects with the victim and apprehended them. “The officer was able to stop what was happening and arrested the two suspects. The lady needed medical attention and was transported to a nearby medical facility for assistance.”

The suspects were charged, arrested and detained at Fairland Police Station. The case has been handed over to a specialised unit that deals with sexual crimes such as this.
