A kick and punch in the right direction

NORTHCLIFF – We talk to Justin Glanville and find out how Taekwon-Do has continued to benefit his life.

With every kick and punch, the love of taekwondo has grown in Justin Glanville like a mustard seed.

Though his fascination with martial art started when he was a young boy, it was only in 1995 that Glanville was introduced to taekwondo by a friend, “I have been doing it ever since,” he said happily.

Currently a sixth dan, he finally attained this belt back in 2013, which meant it took 18 years for him to get to this level.

Even with all his training and dedication, he believes one will never truly master the Korean form of martial art, “It takes years of practice and repetition, so I would say that I am still in the progress of trying to master it even after so many years.”

Through the years, art has taught him many wonderful things but most of all, it has instilled in him, self-control, discipline and a mindset of constant perseverance in all aspects of his life.

“The physical benefits include fitness, balance, coordination, flexibility, increased strength, overall healthier body and mental benefits include enhanced concentration, confidence, calmness, discipline, overall improved attitude towards life,”

He is now in training towards becoming a seventh-degree master and is also is preparing his dojang, Sim Wha Taekwon-Do, to prepare for international events. Glanville said his dojang offers multiple ranges of combat training (both short-distance and long-distance) as well as a healthy balance between both serious and fun training – overall very holistic in our approach to martial arts training.

“Taekwondo can be done by all people regardless of age, gender, physical capability etc. with a diverse variety of training options, therefore it is a very popular lifestyle and helps to uplift any community,” he concluded.
