Law enforcement operations result in success

SOPHIATOWN – Eighteen individuals were arrested for various drug-related charges.

Sophiatown Police Station is thankful to local security companies and Metro police for their continued commitment to their patrols and operations.

According to the station spokesperson Captain TJ de Bruyn, the operations have resulted in arrests, the discovery of stolen property and the discovery of drugs.

Most recently, two suspects were arrested for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle. De Bruyn explained,

“During the operation, we saw two individuals on a motorbike without helmets. Metro police had stopped them to write them a fine for this only to be informed by the community that the bike was stolen.

“We investigated the allegations and found out the bike was stolen prior to our arrival on the next road. The two suspects were arrested with the motorbike being returned to the rightful owner.”

Additionally, the operations and continued efforts of the police have resulted in the arrest of 18 individuals for various drug-related charges. According to De Bruyn, these arrests took place between January 24 and 31 and various types of drugs were involved.

Police thanked members of the community for information that has led to such arrests and urged them to continue reporting these. While members of the public can report suspicious and illegal activity to Crime Stop on 08600 10111, people can also contact the sector managers of the station to do the same.
