No permanent power solutions

RANDPARK – Family is connected to neighbour's electricity meter for days.

A family is waiting for City Power to provide a permanent solution after they were left without power, and contractors connected them to their neighbour’s meter.

Bernard Wozny explained that his electricity had been tripping for a few days before, but resetting the trip switch had stopped restoring power from February 7 onwards.

He contacted City Power and contractors arrived early the next morning.

“They came with that device that can find the fault in the cable underground and found out where the problem was,” Wozny said.

“They said they would be back but until then they connected me to a neighbour’s meter and we have had electricity. But the cable in Cherry Drive is still exposed, and damaged, so if it rains it could be dangerous. I have been phoning and emailing City Power repeatedly but have not had help. One time the woman who answered hung up on me.”

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said, “We agreed with the customer that the temporary connections will be replaced by a permanent solution as soon as we collect the materials needed.”

He added that City Power had been in contact with Wozny and hopefully the matter would be sorted out soon.

As of February 11, the family is still connected to their neighbour’s electricity meter, and their own cable is exposed in the street.
