Ringing of the bell kicks off 2022 school year

FAIRLAND – The next time the learners will ring the bell is when they leave the school on their last day of Grade 7.

Learners participate in the traditional ringing of the bell ceremony on their first day of school.

Laerskool Fairland welcomed their new Grade 1s to the school with their long-standing tradition on January 11.

As part of the orientation day festivities, the 167 new Grade 1s kicked off the start of their big school journey with the Bell Tower Ceremony which gave each learner the opportunity to ring the iconic bell at the entrance of the school.

With parents, families and teachers all in attendance, the ceremony helps build a bond between them all for the betterment of the Grade 1 learner.

The tower has a sign that reads ‘Welcome’. As they enter the tower, the Grade 1 learners rang the bell once and then exited to pose for individual photos on the red-carpeted steps with their principal Willie Goosen. The significance of this simple ceremony will be revisited at the end of their Grade 7 year when on the last day of primary school each learner will ring the bell for the last time when they step out into the world of high school. The sign on the other side of the tower reads: ‘Till we meet again.
