Local to head to snooker championships in December

FOURWAYS – Among the top 16 in South Africa playing in the upcoming Gold Reef City Snooker Championships, Wanderers Club captain in snooker Rafique Limbada is ready to go for the cash prize.

Following recent qualifiers, Fourways resident Rafique Limbada will be hoping to shoot his best in the upcoming Gold Reef City Snooker Championships from December 1 to 5.

The qualifiers which took place on November 7 saw a number of snooker players put their cues forward in hopes of heading to the championships in December. The 32-man field with 16 seeded South African players, will play for the grand prize of R105 000.

Limbada holds three South African titles, is the Wanderers Club snooker captain and also coaches.

“I’ve focused so much on coaching and it really is my life. While I prefer coaching, I’m still at that age where I have that competitive spirit. No matter what sport you play, a champion truly loves to win.

“This upcoming championship is the largest and one of the most historic tournaments to happen in South Africa,” he said. Another Fourways resident, Hamza Mohamed impressed in the qualifiers to make the final against Adil Umair. Mohamed was unfortunate to come up short in the final as Umair won and his also heading to Gold Reef City. “

He [Mohamed] is definitely a player to watch. It is a real shame he is not playing in the Gold Reef City Snooker Championship but there is always next year for sure,” said Umair.
